“The Psychological Birth of the Human Infant”
Based on Margaret Mahler’s pioneering research on child development, the film effectively demonstrates how a child gradually gains a sense of self and individuality while coming to recognize the caregiver as a separate individual.
The footage was extracted from Mahler’s original research data, which provides the foundation for her theory of separation-individuation.
Watch the film with PACT founder Dr. Stan Tatkin and pause along the way to examine and discuss important elements in the real-life cases shown. You’ll also explore more recent advances in separation-individuation research and theory.
This will be an intimate, interactive experience, so be ready to join in and actively participate!
Note: If you’re currently taking Level 3 training, you’ll watch and discuss this film in class, so no need to sign up for this event.
