In psychedelic-assisted therapy, clients take a psychedelic substance while working with a licensed mental health professional. Psychedelic-assisted therapy involves both taking the psychedelic substance along with engaging in professional talk therapy.
Psychedelics can alter perception, mood, and cognition. Psychedelic-assisted therapy can induce profound and lasting changes in psychological and behavioral issues. New scientific studies have shown that interventions using psychedelics have great promise as a treatment for a number of mental health issues.
Yes. We will focus our conversation on ketamine-assisted therapy, which is currently the only legal psychedelic-assisted therapy in all 50 states. This is because ketamine is a Schedule III drug on the list of federally controlled substances (approved for off-label use), while most other psychedelic substances are Schedule I.

Keith Kurlander, MA, LPC, works to advance the field of mental health care through provider training focused on integrative medicine, functional medicine, and psychedelic-assisted therapy.
